The blade width of an extra wide piano hinge is significantly larger than standard models. It typically reaches 50 mm to 75 mm. This width greatly increases the contact area between the hinge and the mounting surface. The number of screw holes on each leaf can increase to 6 to 8. Under the condition of a 64 mm width and a 1.8 mm thickness, this hinge has a static load capacity of 35 kg per unit. The higher load capacity makes it especially suitable for heavy piano lids. It is also suitable for large instrument cases and industrial equipment access panels. The wide design distributes the load more evenly across the mounting surface. This effectively avoids indentations or cracking caused by excessive local pressure on wood or composite materials.
In terms of fatigue life, the extra wide piano hinge performs excellently due to its multi-pivot pin structure. It is made of SUS304 stainless steel and passivated. This hinge undergoes a neutral salt spray test. It can resist red rust for 96 hours. Under a rated load of 20 kg, the hinge operates continuously for 80,000 open-close cycles. After these cycles, the gap increase is less than 0.1 mm. There is no loose rivet phenomenon. The pin diameter is typically 4.0 mm. It works with precision stamped rolled round holes. The opening and closing motion is smooth with no axial movement. Reduce Starting Torque Peak
An Extra Wide Piano Hinge has a long pin. The lubricating film is evenly distributed. Even after one year of static storage, the initial peak of the starting torque is only 0.12 N·m. According to the test method for hinge static starting torque in DIN EN 1935, the hinge is stored for 12 months at 23°C and 50% humidity. The starting torque of the 64 mm wide hinge increases by only 0.02 N·m compared to before storage. This characteristic ensures that a piano lid does not become stuck or produce sudden friction noise even if it has not been opened for many years. The smooth operation is always maintained.

Improve Installation Safety
When the mounting hole is only 8 mm from the edge of the panel, the wide leaf of the wide hinge distributes the pulling force inward. This reduces the lateral component borne by the edge. According to the edge screw holding strength test method in GB/T 17657-2013, the ultimate pull-out force of the 64 mm wide hinge reaches 180 N when the outermost screw is 8 mm from the edge. A narrow hinge can only withstand 95 N under the same edge distance. This means the extra wide hinge allows more flexible installation positions. Even if the edge wood has minor defects, the screw will not pull out.

Enhance Fatigue Resistance
In a random vibration power spectral density test simulating truck transport, the total root mean square value of acceleration is 1.5 g. After 8 hours of continuous vibration, the axial runout of the pin on the 64 mm wide hinge is less than 0.05 mm. According to the vibration test method in the ISTA 3A standard, the multiple rolled round holes of this hinge constrain the pin together. This keeps its natural frequency away from the common resonance peak range of 8 Hz to 12 Hz. A smaller runout means the piano lid can be used normally without any readjustment after delivery. The logistics damage rate is significantly reduced.

Improve Dimensional Matching Stability
After ten cycles of temperature cycling from 5°C to 45°C with relative humidity rising from 30% to 90%, the installation gap change between the wide hinge and the wooden lid is only 0.08 mm. According to the environmental cycle test method in GB/T 2423.22-2012, the 64 mm wide hinge effectively limits the direction of wood expansion and contraction due to humidity changes through its wide contact surface. The left and right offset of the lid after closing is controlled within ±0.1 mm. This is very important for maintaining the symmetrical appearance of the piano and the uniform gap between the lid and the key frame.
