The material selection of Metal Gable Brackets can be optimized according to the building load and environmental conditions. Light structures can use 2.0 mm galvanized steel sheets, while heavy industrial buildings use 4.0 mm thick weathering steel. The yield strength of the latter is not less than 345 MPa according to the ASTM A588 standard of the American Society for Testing and Materials, which is about 1.47 times that of the former 235 MPa. It can withstand greater snow loads and earthquake effects. The cross-sectional shape of the bracket has been optimized through computer finite element analysis, and the traditional right-angle bending has been improved into a cold-bent C-shaped cross-section. This cross-section allows the bracket to have a moment of inertia about the strong axis about 40% higher than that of a flat plate bending structure while maintaining the same cross-sectional area. According to the European Steel Structure Design Code EN According to the regulations on cold-formed steel on January 3, 1993, this optimization reduces the deformation of the bracket under the action of wind suction from 8.6 mm to 5.4 mm when the overhang length is one meter, which significantly improves the wind resistance stability and is especially suitable for steel structure villas and warehouse gable supports in coastal typhoon-prone areas.
In terms of surface treatment system, in addition to hot-dip galvanizing, metal gable brackets can also use polyester powder coating or a composite coating system of zinc-rich primer and topcoat to meet different building appearance and durability requirements. According to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 12944's durability classification of coating systems, the first overhaul period of a composite coating system in a C4 moderately corrosive environment can be up to fifteen years, while the recoating cycle of a single hot-dip galvanized layer in such an environment is ten years. The composite coating extends the maintenance interval by 50%. In addition to the traditional welding method, the connection between the bracket and the main structure can also use high-strength bolt friction connection. According to the anti-slip coefficient stipulated in the AISC 360 specification of the American Institute of Steel Structure, the friction surface coefficient after sandblasting is not less than 0.5, so that a single bolt of M16 specification can transmit 50,000 N of friction under the pre-tightening force of 100,000 N, which facilitates on-site installation and quality control. Ten millimeter-diameter drainage holes are preset at the feet of the bracket. According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers ASHRAE's guidelines for the waterproof design of building envelopes, the drainage holes can prevent accelerated corrosion of the bracket roots due to accumulation of condensed water in the corners, and extend the service life of the bracket in areas with large temperature changes. Therefore, it is widely used on public buildings and residential roofs in temperate continental climate areas.
