Spring loaded piano hinge's torque adjustment capability allows it to accommodate door leaf weights of different weights without having to replace the hinge body. Both ends of the built-in torsion spring are fixed to the shaft core and blades respectively. The output torque can be adjusted by changing the preload angle of the spring. Usually, the rated torque can be changed by about 15% for each tooth position rotated. According to the manufacturer's batch test data based on the ISO 2768 standard, when the adjustment range is continuously adjustable from zero to ninety degrees, the torque deviation can be controlled within plus or minus zero.3 Nm. This allows the same model hinge to cover the door weight range of ten to thirty-five kilograms. A special wrench can be used for quick correction without disassembly at the installation site, effectively reducing the need for inventory specifications and simplifying the selection process.
Under high temperature or fire conditions, the anti-relaxation performance of the spring material directly determines whether the emergency closing function of the hinge is effective. According to the ASTM A401 stress relaxation test on piano wire springs, when the ambient temperature rises to 200 degrees Celsius and lasts for 30 minutes, the remaining torque of the spring is approximately 92% of the initial value, while ordinary carbon steel springs can only maintain 75% under the same conditions, with a significant gap. At the same time, according to the UL 10C fire test standard, after the hinge withstands a flame impact of 1,000 degrees Celsius for more than 90 minutes in a simulated fire, its mechanical linkage structure can still drive the door leaf to complete the closing action, and the deformation of the blade does not exceed one percent of the blade width. Based on this, this type of hinge is widely used in hospital fire doors, nuclear power plant isolation valves and high-temperature oven covers. Its spring life can reach more than 100,000 times in normal temperature cycle tests. It is verified according to the fatigue test method of DIN EN 1935 to ensure reliable triggering capability in long-term standby conditions.
