Narrow piano hinge is a continuous hinge with a blade width of no more than 32 mm. Common specifications are 19 mm, 25.4 mm or 31.8 mm. It can be easily installed on narrow frames or thin-walled cabinets. The blade thickness is usually between 0.8 mm and 1.5 mm. The thin design makes the hinge lighter overall. The weight of one meter length is only about 0.6 to 0.9 kg, making it easy to handle and roll and package.
The pin diameter of this type of hinge is mostly 2.5 mm to 4.0 mm. Thinner pins can reduce the opening torque and make the door panel rotate more smoothly. The hole spacing is usually 50mm or even 25mm, which is denser than ordinary hinges, ensuring sufficient fixing points on narrow mounting surfaces. The matching gap between the blades is controlled at 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm, which not only ensures flexible opening and closing but also reduces lateral shaking, and the overall appearance is compact and precise.

Advantages
Blade width is smaller
Narrow hinge blade widths are typically ≤32 mm, whereas typical piano hinge widths are 50–100 mm. For thin-walled cabinets or aluminum profile frames with narrow frames, the narrow model can be directly fixed on the 35 mm wide frame without additional spacers. DIN 1754 standard for continuous hinges defines the narrow version with a width not exceeding 32 mm.
Closer hole spacing
Generally, the hole spacing of piano hinges is 75 mm or 100 mm, and narrow models often use 50 mm or even 25 mm hole spacing. For a frame with a width of only 40 mm, the dense hole design ensures that each frame surface is fixed with at least 2 screws to avoid loosening.
Total carrying capacity is low
The load capacity per unit length of the narrow type and the general type is similar (approximately 800–1200 N/m stainless steel), but due to the small overall width of the narrow type, the absolute load limit of a single hinge is low. For example, the static load of a 1 meter long narrow type (25 mm wide) is about 300 N, while a 50 mm wide model of the same material can reach 600 N. At the same thickness, the width is doubled and the flexural modulus is doubled.
High material utilization rate
Narrow hinges are more densely packed when die-cut from wide plates. Calculated as 1 meter long, a 25 mm wide hinge can produce 40 meters of finished product per square meter of steel plate, while a 50 mm wide hinge can only produce 20 meters, doubling the material utilization rate. Therefore, the cost per unit length of a narrow type is generally 20–30% lower than that of a wide type of the same thickness.
