Self Fixing Screws

Self-Fixing Screws are a kind of fastener that realizes the locking function through its own structure. The threaded part is usually designed with a variable tooth profile or embedded with a nylon locking ring. During the screwing process, elastic deformation or an increase in frictional resistance occurs, thereby effectively resisting vibration loosening. The material is made of medium-carbon alloy steel that has been quenched and tempered. According to the strength level requirements of ISO 898-1, its performance level can reach level 10.9. The tensile strength is not less than 1,040 MPa and the non-proportional extension strength is not less than 940 MPa. This ensures that the screws can still maintain the integrity of the locking structure under high pre-tightening force. According to the transverse vibration test method of DIN 267 Part 26, at a frequency of 30 Hz and an amplitude of 2.5 mm, the residual preload retention rate of this type of screw after 20,000 vibration cycles can reach 85% of the initial value, while ordinary coarse-thread screws can only maintain about 65% under the same conditions. The improvement in self-fixation performance greatly extends the equipment maintenance cycle.

 

 

In terms of the installation process, self-fixing screws do not require the use of additional washers or anaerobic adhesives, and rely on the special microcapsule adhesive layer coated on the thread surface or the wedge-shaped bevel at the bottom of the thread to generate locking torque. According to the ISO 16047 torque-clamping force test method, when installed to the standard torque, the proportion of the total torque used to overcome thread friction is about 55% to 65%, and the torque that is not used to generate clamping force is effectively absorbed by the locking structure. When the screw is fully tightened, the restoring force of the locking part continues to act on the thread pair. According to the manufacturer's fatigue life test report, under a cyclic load with a stress amplitude of 120 MPa, its fatigue life can reach more than five million times, which is about 30% longer than that of ordinary screws. Therefore, self-fixing screws are widely used in connection nodes that are subject to continuous dynamic loads, such as automobile brake system brackets, engine accessories, and industrial fan bases. This not only simplifies the assembly process, but also reduces the risk of safety accidents caused by loosening.
