Extra Thick Steel Washers

The core of the design of extra thick steel washers is to significantly increase the load-bearing area and crush resistance by increasing the axial thickness. The thickness is usually two to three times that of standard flat washers. Taking the M16 specification as an example, the standard washers are about three millimeters thick, while the thickened ones can be up to eight millimeters. Under the same preload force, the contact compressive stress between the thickened washers and the lower bearing surface of the bolt head can be reduced by about 60 percent, effectively avoiding plastic dents caused by local overload in thin washers. According to compression test data, when a thickened gasket is subjected to an axial load of 150,000 N, its permanent deformation is only 0.04 mm, while the deformation of a standard gasket can reach 0.25 mm under the same load. This shows that the thickened design can maintain the stability of the preload force for a long time, and is especially suitable for applications such as wind turbine tower connections or large press bases that require extremely high fastener stiffness.

The surface of the gasket is blue-treated and coated with anti-rust oil. It can withstand 240 hours without red rust in the neutral salt spray accelerated corrosion test, meeting the short-term anti-rust requirements in general industrial environments. Another advantage of thickened washers is that when there is a slight deviation between the bolt hole and the component hole position, its larger thickness allows the hole diameter to be corrected twice by reaming. The corrected hole diameter deviation can be controlled within plus or minus 0.1 mm. At the same time, the concentricity of the inner and outer diameter of the washer is maintained within 0.05 mm after CNC turning, ensuring the load sharing of bolt connections in rotating equipment with high dynamic balance requirements. In the anti-loosening performance test that simulated alternating lateral loads, the pretightening force attenuation rate of the bolt pair equipped with thickened washers was only 6.5% after 50,000 cycles, which was significantly better than ordinary washers, providing reliable connection guarantee for the long-term safe operation of bridge steel structures and mining machinery.
