Outdoor Continuous Hinge

In outdoor situations, wind, rain, salt spray and temperature changes can quickly rust normal hinges. While outdoor continuous hinges are made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy with special coating treatment. After 720 hours of neutral salt spray testing, there is no flaking or rust spots on the surface. This allows them to be mounted for a long time on metal doors of garden gates, seaside balconies or damp factory buildings and run smoothly without frequent oiling and thus significantly increase the overall service life of the door.

While standard hinges work at only a few points of force, the continuous hinge distributes the load along the full length of the door leaf and can support door weights of over 300 kg evenly. For an outdoor steel door of 2.4 meters wide and 80 kg in weight, the continuous hinge prevents local deformation or sagging, and the opening and closing is smooth and quiet. This full-linear support structure avoids stress concentration, allowing the hinge-to-frame connection to withstand frequent pushing and pulling impacts. The structure is particularly well-suited for entrances in public buildings with high foot traffic.

The continuous hinge itself fills the longitudinal gap between the door and the frame when the door is closed. With the added gasket it reaches an IP67 protection rating – which means it is completely dust-tight and can survive being submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without impacting the internal structure. This is to ensure that the hinges used on outdoor distribution boxes, communication cabinets or external doors of food processing workshops can effectively prevent rain, dust, and even insects from entering, keep the equipment inside clean and dry, and greatly reduce the risk of failure caused by environmental erosion.

The hinge pin is supported by several segments of ball bearings or wear resistant bushings, so that the rotational wear is distributed over the entire length. The clearance increase after 500,000 trouble-free open-close cycles in the testing is under 0.2 mm. This means more than 13 years of life span with an average of 100 opening and closing operations per day without replacement. This robust reliability for doors that are used frequently such as back doors of shopping malls, emergency exits in subway stations or cold storage warehouse doors, means drastically reduced maintenance down time and total life-cycle costs.
