Stainless Steel Reducing Washers are specially designed for working conditions where the diameter of the mounting hole is larger than the diameter of the bolt. By transitioning the large hole to the small bolt size, it effectively avoids the problem of insufficient contact area caused by the bolt head directly crossing the hole. Taking M10 bolts with M16 mounting holes as an example, the outer diameter of this type of washer is 30 mm, and the inner diameter is 10.5 mm. According to the chamfered washer size series specified in the ISO 7090 standard, its effective load-bearing ring width is about 8 mm. This support area is about four times larger than the overlap area between the bolt head and the hole edge without a washer, which reduces the surface pressure generated during tightening from about 160 MPa to less than 40 MPa. In chemical and marine engineering environments, the corrosion resistance level of stainless steel reducer washers directly determines the maintenance cycle of sealing nodes. According to ASTM A240 requirements for the chemical composition of 316L stainless steel, its molybdenum content is not less than 2.5%. When measured in a simulated seawater immersion test according to the ASTM G48 method, the critical pitting temperature can reach more than 45 degrees Celsius, while ordinary 304 stainless steel is only about 20 degrees Celsius. This advantage allows it to maintain surface integrity in environments with high chloride ion concentrations. At the same time, the hardness of the gasket after solution treatment is approximately HRB 80 according to ASTM E18, which matches the hardness of flanges of the same material. After one hundred thousand stress cycle tests, its thickness decreases by only 0.02 mm. Therefore, it can be safely used in offshore platform pipeline flanges and desulfurization tower inlet flanges. It not only completes the bolt size conversion but also ensures the long-term safety of the connection.
