Metal shim washers are indispensable thin components in precision mechanical assembly. They are mainly used to fill the tiny gaps between parts, correct accumulated tolerances, and ensure that the pretightening force can be evenly distributed when connecting bolts or pins to avoid local stress concentration causing shell deformation. Commonly used materials include grade 304 stainless steel, H62 brass and quenched and tempered No. 45 steel. Corrosion resistance or stiffness can be selected according to different working conditions. According to the GB/T 97.1 standard, the flatness error of this type of gasket can be controlled to no more than 0.02 mm per 25 mm length, and the total thickness deviation after combining multiple pieces can be stabilized within plus or minus 0.015 mm. This enables CNC machine tool spindle bearing preloading and automobile transmission gear adjustment to achieve extremely high alignment accuracy, significantly reducing transmission noise and vibration.
Under heavy load or high-frequency vibration conditions, metal shim washers also assume the auxiliary functions of buffering and anti-loosening. After the surface is galvanized or phosphated, its corrosion resistance is improved, and the hardness of the gasket after quenching and tempering process can reach Rockwell HRC 42 to 46 according to ASTM E18, which can effectively prevent bolt loosening caused by local depression. Experimental data shows that the ultimate load-bearing pressure of a single gasket with a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 2 mm can exceed 250 MPa under static compression, and its residual thickness change rate does not exceed 5% after one million consecutive alternating loads. This is particularly critical in the adjustment of the planet carrier of wind power gearboxes and the compensation of the guide rails of heavy-duty presses. It not only ensures long-term operational reliability, but also facilitates quick correction of gaps on site by increasing or decreasing the number of pieces, greatly reducing maintenance downtime.
