Heavy duty piano hinges for doors exhibit excellent resistance to brittle fracture under extreme temperature differences and sudden impact conditions. The low-temperature impact test conducted in accordance with the ISO 148 standard shows that after being frozen at minus 45 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, the impact energy absorbed by the hinge blade base still reaches 47 joules, while ordinary carbon steel hinges only have 23 joules at the same temperature, and the toughness retention rate exceeds 94%. At the same time, the high-temperature aging test lasted for one thousand hours in the air at 80 degrees Celsius in accordance with the GB/T 3512 standard. The increase in opening and closing torque of the hinge was only 6.2% of the initial value, which is far lower than the 20% increase commonly seen in the industry. This ensures that metal doors can still be pushed and pulled easily even when exposed to the sun in summer. In addition, to deal with the impact caused by frequent closing, a 5.5kg pendulum is used to hit the middle of the door leaf at a speed of two meters per second. After 20,000 consecutive impacts, the hinge axial gap increment is only 0.11mm, effectively preventing the door leaf from sagging.
This hinge also performs well in terms of resistance to chemical corrosion and loosening. After the hinges were immersed in an acidic solution with a pH value of 2.5 and an alkaline solution with a pH value of 11.5 for 300 hours respectively, the surface coating showed only slight discoloration and no corrosion pits in the matrix. The corrosion weight loss was 0.3 mg per square centimeter and 0.2 mg per square centimeter respectively, while the unprotected hinge lost more than 2.1 mg in the acidic solution. Regarding the anti-loosening performance in a long-term vibration environment, a lateral vibration test was conducted in accordance with the ISO 16130 standard. After the hinge continued to vibrate for 24 hours at an amplitude of plus or minus two millimeters and a frequency of 25 Hz, the residual pretightening force of the fastening nut still maintained 92% of the initial value. In comparison, ordinary hinges without anti-loosening design only had 64% left. This makes it a reliable choice for places with strong vibrations such as airport baggage conveyor side doors and high-speed rail station automatic doors.
