Double sided rivets for metal cover a total plate thickness range of 1.5 mm to 6.0 mm in a single diameter. This means that one specification can replace three different bolt lengths, reducing stock variety by approximately 60%. According to the ISO 14589 fatigue testing standard, the rivet retained 82% of its initial value after 1 million cycles of loading at 30% of static strength. This data shows that its long-term dynamic reliability is better than that of ordinary spot welded connections, whose strength typically drops below 70% after the same number of cycles.
The installation process of double-sided rivets only requires an axial pulling force of 2500 N to complete the forming, and is suitable for common hand-held pneumatic rivet guns. It is less physically demanding on the operator than stand-in rivet nuts which require more than 15 kN of pressure. In a low temperature environment of -40°C, the elongation of the double-sided rivet remained above 85% of the room temperature value when tensile testing was performed according to ASTM E8 standards. Ordinary carbon steel solid rivets will become brittle at the same low temperature, and the elongation will drop to 60%.

Advantages

Uniform clamping force
Ordinary blind rivets only form a single bulge on the blind side. Double-sided rivets create symmetrical bulges on both sides. This results in a more even distribution of clamping force. According to the ISO 15978 standard test, the diameter deviation of the bulge on both sides after double-sided molding can be controlled within ±0.2 mm. This ensures that there is no risk of one-sided warping of the connected metal sheets.
No anti-loosening treatment required
The locking force of double-sided rivets comes from the permanent plastic deformation of the metal bulges on both sides. It does not rely on threads or adhesives. The vibration table test frequency is 50 Hz and the acceleration is 5 g. After 100 hours, the residual clamping force of the double-sided rivet is still 96% of the initial value. The residual clamping force of ordinary bolts and spring washers is reduced to 74% under the same conditions.


Still valid for non-circular holes
Ordinary rivets require round and centered holes. Double-sided rivets rely on bilateral bulges to fill irregular gaps. When the hole is oval, its major axis is 0.4 mm larger than the nominal diameter. At this time, the shear strength of the double-sided rivet decreases by only 9%. Ordinary open-ended rivets dropped by 28% under the same conditions.
Nail core affects strength
The strength of ordinary rivets is limited by the breaking force of the nail core. The strength of the double-sided rivet mainly depends on the strength of the nail body after the double drum is formed. Take the diameter of 4.8 mm as an example. After the nail core material was changed from carbon steel to stainless steel, the overall shear strength only increased from 1350 N to 1380 N. The increase was 2.2%. The same material change for ordinary rivets increases by 12%.

Double-sided rivets are compatible with adhesive and spot welding. The same joint can be glued first and then riveted. The rivets provide positioning force before the glue is cured, and the combined strength is 25% higher than that of a single process.
► No subsequent cleaning steps required
There is no splash, no welding slag, and no chips during the riveting process. The surface is clean after connection. After welding, welding slag needs to be polished and cleaned, which takes an average of 15 minutes per 100 solder joints.
