Friction Piano Hinge

Friction piano hinge uses built-in friction stacks and pivot pins to provide continuous and preset resistance for cabinet doors and covers to achieve smooth hovering at any angle. Static load tests conducted in accordance with the ISO 7176 standard show that when a vertical force of 120 Newtons is applied to the middle of the door leaf, the hinge can still maintain the initial set angle, and its angle deviation is less than 0.2 degrees, while ordinary frictionless hinges will slide more than 3.5 degrees under the same conditions. The durability test further showed that after 50,000 90-degree opening and closing cycles, the attenuation rate of the friction torque was only 8.6% of the initial value, which is far lower than the 20% limit generally required by the industry. This ensures long-term performance in high-frequency use scenarios such as robot shields.

 

 

In terms of environmental adaptability, the friction hinge uses a stainless steel base and special polymer friction plates to maintain stable output in a wide temperature range. The thermal cycle test was conducted for 200 cycles between minus 40 degrees Celsius and 85 degrees Celsius. The results showed that the maximum change in friction torque was only plus or minus 4.2 percent, while the change in hinge using grease damping was as high as 22.7 percent. At the same time, after 240 hours of salt spray spraying in accordance with ASTM B117, the increase in starting torque of the hinge did not exceed 5.8% of the initial torque, and no red rust appeared on the surface. This means that friction hinges installed on ship hatches or seaside observation windows will not lose their positioning function due to corrosion.
