Thin brass washers are usually precision stamped from H62 or H65 brass strip, with a density of approximately 8.5 g/cm³, which is between pure copper (8.96 g/cm³) and steel (7.85 g/cm³), ensuring a sufficient metallic feel without significantly increasing the total mass of the fastener. In addition, the melting point of this type of gasket is as high as 900~940°C, which is much higher than ordinary plastic or rubber gaskets. In high-temperature operating environments (such as near engine exhaust manifolds or inside industrial ovens), thin brass gaskets will not soften or melt and continue to provide stable separation and pressure distribution, thereby extending the life of the entire connection structure.
Looking at mechanical properties, the elastic modulus of a thin brass gasket is about 100 GPa, which is lower than steel (about 200 GPa) but significantly higher than that of pure copper. Another important parameter is their Vickers hardness (HV). Semi-hard thin brass washers can reach 90 to 120 HV, while pure copper in the annealed state is only about 50 HV. The higher hardness means that the gasket is less likely to be indented or excessively deformed when subjected to bolt pretightening force. It is especially suitable for equipment that requires repeated disassembly or assembly or withstands vibration shock, such as the fastening position of small power tool casings. At the same time, the moderate hardness will not damage the bolt thread, ensuring the reliability of the fit after multiple maintenances.

High-precision dimensional control
Premium thin brass washers are precision stamped. Dimensional tolerances are small. For example, a gasket with an inner diameter of 6.4mm has an inner diameter tolerance of H11. The outer diameter tolerance is ±0.1mm. High precision ensures consistent fit during automated assembly. No sticking or loosening. It is especially suitable for occasions with strict positioning requirements such as precision instruments, micro motors or aerospace connectors.
Higher strength and toughness
Thin brass washers are thin but mechanically strong. The tensile strength of semi-hard H62 brass is 250~450 MPa. The yield strength is 150~350 MPa. This is much higher than pure copper (about 200 MPa). Even though the thickness is only 0.3mm, it can withstand large bolt pre-tightening force. Will not deform or break excessively. Suitable for vibration environments, such as small engines or fastening parts of power tools.
Cost-effectiveness advantage
Thin brass washers perform nearly as well as pure copper, but at a much lower cost. Take a flat washer with a diameter of 8.4mm and a thickness of 0.5mm as an example. The material cost of brass is about 60~70% of that of pure copper. Brass is stronger and harder. Therefore, the material can be further thinned. Brass machining is more efficient than stainless steel washers. The unit price can be about 20% lower. Where electrical, thermal or moderate corrosion resistance requirements are required, thin brass washers are ideal for both performance and economy.
Good weldability
Brass washers can be soldered or brazed to the base plate or housing. Using common Sn63Pb37 solder, the wetting angle can be less than 30°. Can form a strong metallurgical bond. In electronic equipment, thin brass washers may be pre-soldered to circuit boards or ground terminals. It acts as both a conductive spacer and a structural support. Compared to stainless steel washers, brass requires no special flux to achieve reliable welds. This reduces assembly costs.

Thin brass washers are available as part of a combination washer. For example, when stacked with rubber seals, brass provides a uniform pressure-bearing surface to prevent the soft seal from being extruded. Experiments show that the sealing pressure can be increased by more than 30% after combination.

When in contact with aluminum or magnesium alloys, the electrochemical potential difference of brass is smaller than that of steel and aluminum. Thin brass washers can slow down galvanic corrosion and protect light alloy structural parts.
► Fire safety
Brass does not burn or support combustion. Thin brass gaskets will not produce toxic smoke or droplets in a fire environment. Its melting point is about 900°C or above, which can maintain structural integrity within a certain period of time and prevent sudden failure of fastened connections.
