Metal gate hinges weldable is available with pin diameters up to 16 mm. Blade length can be selected in 200 mm specification. When the weight of the door leaf exceeds 150 kg, the 200 mm long blade reduces the peak stress of the weld seam by about 45% compared with the 100 mm short blade. The blade thickness tolerance of high-quality hinges is controlled within ±0.3 mm. This ensures that the door leaf is flat and not skewed after welding. This kind of hinge is mostly made of Q235B steel. Its carbon equivalent is less than 0.4%. Therefore it has good solderability. It is not easy to produce hardening cracks.

 

Outdoor gates are constantly exposed to wind loads and impacts. This type of hinge can withstand a static force of 380 N·m in the breaking torque test. The hinge did not break after the test. For scenes with frequent opening and closing every day, its dynamic fatigue life reaches 100,000 times. At this time, the gap between the pin and the blade does not increase by more than 0.5 mm. The salt spray test of ordinary grade hinges treated with electro-galvanization can only last 72 hours. High-quality hot-dip galvanizing can be extended to more than 500 hours. High Static Load Capacity

Weldable gate hinges achieve high static load capacity through thick leaves and large pins. A premium hinge has a static load rating of 350 kg per hinge. This rating uses a safety factor of 2.5 for two hinges per gate. Such hinges are suitable for heavy steel or iron gates. A standard hinge claims a rating of 150 kg. But its actual safe working load is only 80 kg. Always check the test data. Overloading causes hinge deformation or weld tearing. Therefore, select hinges based on your real gate weight.

Weld Bevel Design

Premium hinges have a single V bevel on the leaf edge. The root face is only 1 to 2 mm. This design allows full penetration welding without backing. The weld tensile strength reaches over 90 percent of the base metal. Actual measured penetration depth is 6 mm for an 8 mm thick leaf. Standard hinges have no bevel. Their penetration depth is only 2 to 3 mm. This leads to incomplete fusion and weak welds. The bevel design lowers skill requirements for welders. It also increases welding success rate. A good bevel saves time and materials.

For the same size of 100 mm by 80 mm, a premium hinge with 8 mm leaf thickness weighs about 1.8 kg each. A standard hinge claims 5 mm thickness. But its actual thickness is only 4.2 mm. It weighs only 0.9 kg. Weight difference directly shows real plate thickness and pin diameter. Hand lifting is the quickest way to tell them apart. A premium hinge is typically 30 to 60 percent heavier than a standard one. This is a direct reflection of steel cost. Never rely on labeled thickness alone.

Wide Range of Leaf Lengths

Commercially available weldable hinges have leaf lengths from 80 mm to 250 mm. Data shows that for gate weight above 150 kg, use a 200 mm long leaf with 8 mm thickness. This longer leaf reduces peak weld stress by about 45 percent compared to a 100 mm short leaf. Longer leaves provide more welding contact area. This is especially important in high wind areas. For example, a gate under a level 17 typhoon can experience lateral forces up to 500 N. A longer leaf helps prevent weld tearing. Always choose longer leaves for heavy gates.
